Large-scale compressed hydrogen storage as part of renewable electricity storage systems

Storing energy in the form of hydrogen is a promising green alternative. Thus, there high interest to analyze status quo different storage options. This paper focuses on large-scale compressed options with respect three categories: vessels, geological storage, and other underground alternatives. In this study, we investigated wide variety technologies, discussing fair detail their theory operation, potential, challenges. The analysis confirms that techno-economic chain required evaluate viability one option over another for case by case. Some discussed technologies are immature; however, does not rule out these technologies; rather, it portrays research opportunities field foreseen potential technologies. Furthermore, see would have significant role balancing intermittent renewable electricity production.
